Overview

A six-page comic that brings childhood wonder to life. This story is based on a personal memory in elementary school, finding a rock and naming it Rocky. The comic exaggerates reality to capture the limitless imagination kids have, where an ordinary rock becomes something magical.

The Challenge

The challenges came in depicting mood and feeling, creating clever and readable paneling that kept readers engaged, and showing shifts in environment without unexpected transitions. Every panel needed to serve the story while maintaining the sense of childlike wonder.

The Solution

Color became my primary storytelling tool. I used different color palettes to represent emotions and environments. Each shift reflects how the main character views the world around her, symbolizing her perspective and feelings throughout the story. For dynamic paneling, I intentionally broke traditional panel borders at key moments and layered them in thoughtful ways that emphasized the magic of the moment.
